Quantum Physics & Tantric Sex

Some notes on Tantra, Tao, the Universe and quantum physics.

Every particle of matter in existence is not a single point in space, but exists in a cloud of probability.  An electron, for example, cannot be certainly identified in one position – it is actually spread out, it is most likely to be found in one spot, and the trailing tales of the likelihood of finding it spread out – a micron away and it’s less likely it’ll be there, another micron, and it’s still there as well – just less likely still.  The electron is actually spread out – in fact, in theory to infinity in all directions.  Each electron actually exists not at one point, but at every single point in the universe – just at varying probabilities.  Now, our minds run on electrons, which charge up and down our neurons, sparking off the synapses as and when they feel appropriate to do so.  The synapses spark when a fact is established.  But of course, the electrons doing the work in our heads also exist at every point in the universe.  The upshot is that quantum physics demonstrates how a spiritual connection can exist between our selves and the universe.  Science and spirituality are not mutually exclusive.  This has been known to practitioners of Tantra and Taoism (or Daoism) for a long time.

Quantum physics is a relatively new science; but the basic concepts can be easily understood without any formal scientific training.  We know that objects are attracted to each other by forces.  Objects which have mass are pulled together by the gravitational force.  There are also electrical forces which will attract or repel electrically charged particles such as electrons and protons.  Other forces exist in the universe, but let’s consider the gravitational force.  Two masses attract.  Put them close together they attract more, take them further and further apart and the gravitational attraction steadily falls off.  Hence a modest sized planet like the earth sucks us a lot more than a much larger planet like Jupiter, because Jupiter is further away.  But Jupiter certainly applies a force to each and every atom which makes up the earth; the strength of the force falls off but only approaches zero, and never actually reaches it.  So as you read this sentence, every particle of your body is experiencing a gravitational force acting on it from the planet Jupiter.  In fact every individual particle of your body is constantly connected to every individual atom of Jupiter by the gravitational attraction.  In other words, every particle of your body is constantly connected to every single particle in the universe.  The atoms in your body are constantly sensing the positions of the furthest galaxies.  And so, the electrons which race around the neurons in your mind are also constantly in contact with the universe.  You are connected to the entire universe all the time.  But it isn’t any big deal.  It’s the way it has always been, it’s just that it’s taken humans a lot of evolution to be able to see what’s really going on.

The consequence, as practitioners of Tantra understand, is that a spiritual connection between two souls does not clash with science.
