Plastic
Plastic is new to our planet. It is another invention which has the potential to cause problems for us as it violates the Island Principle. It has a high calorific value, which is shown in the fact that it is invariably highly flammable. To a microbe it is food. If a bacterium or mould evolves which has a taste for PVC or whatever the polymer, what are we going to do then? And we have a planet full of bacteria which are all working on cracking plastic. If or when they do, our plastic will rot. Imagine that. Imagine the scene in our civilisation when all the plastic starts to decay. Fairly tricky. What then? Back to woodwork?
“In oneself lies the whole world, and if you know how to look and learn, then the door is there, and the key is in your hand. Nobody on earth can give you either the key, or the door to open, except yourself.”
Krishnamurti, 1972. A Picture of Health, Piatkus.
