The Island Principle
Species on islands are very vulnerable when a continental invader arrives, when the island eco-system is not strong enough to cope with the in-comer. Rabbits introduced to the UK, and mink, rats on the Galapagos eating tortoises, ground dwelling parrots in New Zealand, eaten by cats. There are many examples. Well, Earth is an island too. If a species came from a more hostile planet, chances are it could overtake our world and cause our species damage or even extinction. Genetically modified organisms are those species from another world – we are creating organisms which our global ecosystem has never previously encountered. We need to get wise now, before the money fuelled pseudo-scientists do something they don’t yet understand. And we, and God knows which other species pay the price. We don’t need GMO’s.
