being nice! In Taoism there is no bad and there are no problems; following truth, all things become tools which we can use to our advantage. Here are a few practical examples of how activists can be empowered by seeing through illusions: - Activists sometimes perceive criticism as bad: Madonna thanks her critics, as she turns their criticism to positive guidance, she becomes empowered and successful by surrendering her ego. - Two musicians were brought together by fate (serendipity / Tao). They gelled perfectly and their potential was great. One was manipulating the other, the other ridiculed the first. It fell apart, their potential was lost; they were dis-empowered. Such useful fate occurs all the time. - National Greenpeace chose not to produce and sell music singles to supporters to enter the charts, get the message across to many peopl, and gain revenue for campaigning. Two buskers carried the idea through, and made the charts. - A local campaign group stopped a web site being created because they perceived one activist as controlling. They could have yielded (using yin). The site, and its campaign potential was lost. - The understanding of thousands of years, known by Taoists and practitioners of Kabbala was rejected by a psychologist-activist because her ego was dented by the fact that she didn’t understand; she felt small, and then refused to learn the time-proven methods. She was dis-empowered. - Change is part of Taoism, it gives us better lives. But if we’re not prepared to change, how can we expect the rest of the world to change to less damaging ways? - People sometimes dismiss spiritual campaigning as it may appear cranky, even though its effectiveness is proven, and ironically Greenpeace exists because of Taoism! The people who cause wars or damage the environment constantly attack the truth by proliferating falsehoods. It is their way of hiding their guilt. Environmentalists refer to this as greenwash. When we train ourselves to see clearly through the illusions of their deliberate falsehoods we are able to use truth in our campaigning. So in order to campaign for peace or the environment, the only logical path is for us also to campaign for truth. And so...the way to tap into this source of power is... 1 Want to Change - one must first acknowledge one has a lot to learn about life and campaigning. 2 Learn - read The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet at least twice. Or visit www.thequestfortruth.co.uk/campaigning. 3 Observe - see clearly where the illusions are. 4 Act appropriately - put into practice your newly improved map of the campaign process.
