trying to make up for it only makes the situation a whole lot worse.  The evil father in the film took the coward’s way of persecuting truth and love.
There was a ray of hope in the film.  At the end of the film as Keating was ushered out, the boys took to standing on their desks and said goodbye to their “captain”.  The seeds of growth had been planted into the minds of the boys.  We can all grow, like those boys.  We can be what we want to be.  It helps if we are receiving love.  And it is the duty of every one of us to give love to others in the ways described.

The lessons in love are out there, but they seem to be disguised.  “I wanna know what love is…” goes the song, and many of us are confused for all our lives as to the meaning of love.  “What is love?” asked an elderly relative of mine, in his sixties, just two weeks ago.  We are led to believe, through our culture that love is boy-meets-girl, kissing, hugs, lust and all that.  But in reality to love someone is to nurture their spirit, to help them to grow to be all that they can be, to make them happy and to heal their spiritual wounds.  Although films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Dead Poets’ Society clearly demonstrate what love is about, they don’t explicitly say “look – this is love, this is how you do it, and this is the power of what love can do”, so many of us let the message flow straight through us thinking “well that was a good couple of hours’ entertainment,
