we cease to live; we become automated machines sucking in information from the screen while our bodies sit inert on the sofa.  I write as a user of telly and alcohol.  And on occasions I admit I also use both to dull the sadnesses in my own reality.

The soul is that ephemeral concept – it exists and yet it doesn’t.  Does it exist in law?  Can one argue the case before a jury that a person’s soul has been violated?  No?  Then why do witnesses in a court case have to swear on a holy book?  The book represents God as the witness to what will be spoken, thereby encouraging he witness to hold the truth lest the judgement of God be brought down upon that person.  On their soul.  It has no place legally and yet the legal machinery acknowledges that it does!
