badger-baiting.  As we grow as a species, such “throw-back” behaviour becomes more clearly seen as wrong.
Hitting children gives them the lesson that it is ok to fight.  To make war.  It is one of the many mechanisms which serves to instill into the populations consciousness that war is a rational thing.  It’s a small part of our insane conditioning.  To accept something which is logically way off the mark, as normal, simply because it is what we were taught.
Then, when the illogic of it is pointed out to those who are part of that hitting-system, the people who are guilty of inflicting pain on weaker people feel guilty.  Very often they will fight their corner tooth-and-claw, rather than face the public humiliation of admitting what they are doing is wrong.  It is difficult to criticise one’s own behaviour, and even more frightening to admit publicly “I was wrong”.  Again, that gives the wrong impression of weakness, whereas reforming one’s own bad behaviour is actually the ultimate sign of inner strength.  People who grow more loving in this way, must be audibly praised.  Changing shows strength.  Unless the people around them praise
