Darwin’s Persecution

Darwin’s genius provides another clear illustration of the mechanism of truth rejection.  He held on to his publication The Origin of Species knowing full well it was going to rip the world apart by clearly demonstrating how the creationist theory was wrong.  And as a Christian himself, he agonised over the correct course of action.  What was the correct course, adhere to truth or maintain a delusion?  Eventually he published of course, and the rejection was massive.  It must have been a mind blowing experience for him to have the world so utterly turned upside down by his own writings.  And he was persecuted.  Ridiculed.  And all he did was report on what he saw before him.  But the ego’s of the creationists were dented by the truth, and so they fought to maintain the illusion that they were high in the scale of Social Esteem.  They had been shown to be fools, and the remnants of the survival trait inside their genetic code, the part of them which wanted to appear desirable to the opposite sex, in order to pass on their genes – that part of them was threatened.  The creationists looked foolish, un-sexy, there was a risk that they would not be able to pass their genes on, so they tried to distort reality – they tried to make Darwin look like the fool by proliferating their falsehoods.  They tried to destroy the truth.  They persecuted the truth.  They did not grow.  But eventually the truth of evolution ploughed unstoppably through the madness, and its truth remains unchallenged today.
Well not entirely unchallenged.  In fact there are many people who still deny that evolution is real, in spite of mountains of evidence.  Mountains built from geological records and fossils which clearly show the process of evolution occurring over many millions of years.
